Hand Creams to Combat Winter

For a few weeks now, partly due to the colder weather we having been having and partly due to the horrendous Air Conditioning at work, plus having a very hands on job, I've had really dry hands - so I've been on a mission to get them feeling a bit more happy! So I thought I would share with you some of my favourite hand creams to help get them feeling a bit more soft and lovely feeling!

These are all the perfect sizes to keep in your handbag and all have a screw on lid which stays on firmly, making sure you can always have your favourite hand cream on the go for whenever your hands need a bit of love, but you can always be rest assured that your bag won't be covered in all kinds of creams by the end of the day - which is always a bonus, right?

L'Occitane Hand Cream for Dry Skin is the thickest cream out of the three and is the only one to contain 20% Shea Butter which makes it for me, the heavy duty stuff for when my hands are really suffering - for example on those bitter frosty mornings or when I've had long days at work. I was lucky enough to pick up this hand cream when it was a free gift in this months Marie Claire magazine, which is still available if you want to pick one up (there is four hand creams to chose from!), so if you are new to L'Occitane or want to try one of their hand creams before you treat yourself to something from the brand, this is the perfect way to treat yourself and try something out.

When you use the L'Occitane Hand Cream you can definitely smell the Shea Butter and you can definitely feel it working and your hands feel super soft within minutes of this hand cream soaking in which is definitely something you want. Your hands don't feel tacky or oily after either which is something I don't like when using hand creams - I don't like my hands to feel sticky or have to wait for a long time for creams to sink in, so this is a definite bonus for me and therefore this is definitely my go to cream when it comes to needing something a bit heavier to give my hands a bit of extra love.

I kindly received the Crabtree & Evelyn Ultra Moisturising Hand Therapy in my Sheffield BBloggers goody bag for me to try out. I recieved the Tarocco Orange with Eucalyptus & sage hand cream and when I open it up or use it on my hands, I can definitely smell the herbs in there before the citrus smell of the oranges comes through once the cream has begun to sink in. This cream has quite a running consistency so it's easy to use on the go and doesn't need much rubbing in for it to sink in - unlike the hand creams with a thicker consistency. It does however, take a few minutes for the cream to sink in properly before your hands don't feel tacky, so I tend to use this cream in the evenings when i'm relaxing and watching the tv and don't need to do anything with my hands.

However, once it has sank in, it does make your hands feel silky smooth and does clear up any dryness I'm having, which is brilliant. The herby smell does linger on your skin for longer whereas the citrus side of it does fade rather quickly, which is a shame as I do like the smell of citrus things such as oranges, limes and lemons - but the smell isn't terrible, it's just personal taste.

I will admit that I bought the Glazed Apple Hand Cream from The Body Shop firstly, because I love the spell of apples at Christmas (Glazed Apples, Apple Spice, Frosted Apples... you get the picture!) so it was always going to come home with me. The Glazed Apple Hand Cream is part of one of festive ranges for Christmas 2014 and it's definitely my favourite (between you and me, I plan on picking up the majority of the range on payday). This hand cream is also a light consistency and has a very strong smell - which I personally love, but if you aren't a fan of strong smelling hand creams, then this maybe isn't for you. It sinks it very easily and quickly and you don't have to wait around for it either as it doesn't make your hands feel tacky or sticky afterwards, meaning it's going to be the perfect hand cream to go in my bag to use during the days as I will be able to use my hands and do things straight away after using the cream, which is definitely a big plus for me.

L-R: The Body Shop, Crabtree & Evelyn and L'Occitane

All the creams have a white colour except for the Glazed Apple Hand Cream by The Body Shop and this has a light green tint to it - which I kind of like! You can also see how the L'Occitane Hand Cream is also the thickest because it basically stands up by itself when you apply it to the back of your hand, whereas the other two with the lighter consistency kind of ran into each other on the back of my hand.

I think I will be using the Glazed Apple Hand Cream the most around this time of year because it's the quickest to use and sinks in the best - plus it smells incredible and makes you feel very festive, which I love!

What are your favourite hand creams to use to help you combat the dry skin caused by the colder months?

  1. I didn't realise there was going to be a hand cream in the Glazed Apple range. I don't think it's in my local Body Shop yet but when it is I may be going a bit mad on that range too....

  4. I didn't realise that there was a glazed apple hand cream, I definitely need to scope that one out!! I like Elizabeth Arden 8hr intensive hand cream for the Winter, it's so worth the extra money and you definitely have to apply it less.
