Katy Perry: Killer Queen

I know some people absolutely hate celebrity perfumes with a passion. But, personally, I don't mind some of them. The first ever 'celebrity' perfume I bought was Curious by Britney Spears, when I was around 14/15 years old, I was addicted to the stuff and it became "my scent". Every birthday/Christmas, i got some and to this day I still have a bottle still unopened! Before I carry on, this sounds like a lot of 'Celebrity Perfume' by I do actually have branded stuff.. but that is not what the review is about! The next celebrity perfume I tried was in 2011 and it was Katy Perry's Purr. This will always be one of my favourite perfumes of all time and throughout my years studying at Uni, this was "my scent", it just smells so yummy! The next Celebrity perfume was FAME by Lady Gaga. I really do like this perfume and it is my go to perfume at the minute. I have two bottles of the stuff as they were Christmas/birthday gifts again - expect a full review of that in the future! Look at me branching out and doing something other that review after review. GROWTH!

Anyway, on my travels I heard about Katy Perry's third perfume (her second being Meow, the sister perfume to Purr, which i still need to try!) called Killer Queen - as soon as I saw the advert for it, and being a fan of Katy Perry, I knew I had to give this a whirl! So, I trotted off to Boots and sprayed some and went for a walk to see what it smelled like on my skin after a few hours - and as you can probably guess, I liked it!

I opted for 50ml as it was only a few pounds more expensive than the 30ml! The box is HUGE though, so big, that I genuinely thought they had accidentally given me a 100ml. But it becomes clear why the box is so huge when you get the perfume out - the lid itself is pretty big and the point on the end takes up a bit of room, plus the secure plastic packaging it comes in. All a bit too much stuff that made it seem you were getting more than you are - as you can see by the size of the bottle compared to the size of where the perfume is actually stored inside.

The box is lovely and looks really fancy, with the shiny red box with gold detailing giving the impression of one of those fancy cushions I forget the name of. The bottle itself is sturdy to hold and thanks to the shape of the bottle, it fits nicely in your hand without fear of dropping it. The cap needs some pulling to give off - this is also a good thing though, meaning if you do need to take it about with you (although that is unlikely, as this is a Eau De Parfum so it will last hours!) it will be fine in your bag without needing to worry about spillages.

"When I was creating Killer Queen, I was really inspired by the idea of a strong, confident woman in power and that is exactly what I hoped to put into this fragrance, something that brings out the power inside of you."
- Katy Perry

Top Notes: Wild berries, Dark Plums and Bergamot.
Middle Notes: Celosia, Sambac Jasmine and Rainbow Plumeria.
Base Notes: Cashmere, Patchouli and liquid praline.

The sweet notes contrasted with the darker notes make this smell absolutely divine and bring an air of sexiness to this perfume, which I like, but again, it may not be for everyone. Some people think it's a bit rich for daily use, but I don't think so and have been happily wearing it during the day and for work.  Although, it is more suited to the Autumn/Winter months as it can be quite a heavy scent, so when when (read: if) the Summer months decide to show up I can see myself swapping this for something more light.

When I bought this perfume when it first came out last year, i picked it up from Superdrug as I noticed that they had an offer, that when you purchased a Killer Queen perfume (in any size) you got a free bag. How could I say no to that? However, the bag was a disappointment. It's poor quality and the stiching of the design is even worse! You can't make out any of the detailing or lettering of Katy Perry's initials about what are meant to be two cats (can you see a them with her perfumes yet! :P) and it feels flimsy to hold. I would risk using this out of the house out of fear it would break! But as it was free and I was getting the perfume anyway, it's not too bad! I just hope no-one bought it for the bag alone.

Have any of you tried this perfume? What do you think about "celebrity" perfumes?

  1. I was wanting to try this but still haven't got round to smelling it ! Can you smell the praline in it ? I don't mind celebrity perfumes as with majority of fragrances you are paying for the advertising and packaging etc. I do find that higher end fragrances contain less synthetic fragrance notes and last longer on the skin usually. nice review! x

I'd love to hear what you think. I will respond to every single one of your gorgeous people!
Please don't comment just to leave your blog link - but if you actually have something to say, then I don't mind you leaving it at the end!

Thank you.
