Urban Decay: Naked Basics Palette

For Christmas I was lucky enough to receive the Naked Basics palette by Urban Decay. I've been wanting this palette for a long time now, mainly because I don't own many matte shades and I wear neutral shades to work, as although there is no "makeup rules" - meaning, I can pretty much wear whatever makeup/nail polish I like to work - I don't, just because I feel a netural make-up with a muted berry/pink/red lip is much better for me personally - I prefer wearing more 'out there' makeup in my spare time.

Anyway, I digress.. In short, I needed this palette in my life because well, I did. (and partly because of the reasons above!). I had also seen a lot of blog posts about this palette too and I feel in love with the look of it.

Urban Decay Naked Basics

In comes in a cardboard box with all the standard information on and information about the shades on the box. The palette itself actually surprised me, it feels rubberized to touch. Now, this may not be everyones cup of tea, but I like it because it means I can get a better grip on the palette, and because this is actually quite a small palette, it means there is less of a chance of me dropping it and it slipping out my hand.

MAC and Sleek dupes

When I was taking some blog photos recently, I noticed that a few products in the pans look very close to the eyeshadow Cranberry by MAC - which is one of my favourites. So, I decided to see if they were in fact, dupes.

L-R: Solar by Sleek, Shade 25 by MUA, MAC Cranberry, Maybelline 24hr Color Tattoo in Metallic Pomegranete.

The four I noticed were: Solar in the Celestial Palette by Sleek, Shade 25 by MUA and Metallic Pomegranete. In the pans, MUA look almost completely identical to Cranberry just with less of a frost finish. Solar had a bit more of a purple tone rather than the red of Cranberry, and Metallic Pomegranete was slightly darker than Cranberry at first glance.

The Sinful Colors Series: Rise & Shine

This week I have another new purchase from the Sinful Colors range - named Rise and Shine! I will admit, this was another accidental buy. When scouting out the Sinful Colors stand in Boots deciding which colors I wanted to try next, I found this little polish and in the store in look like a lovely blue shade. Feeling brave, I popped it in my basket - as I've said before I don't do blue. It doesn't go with my skin tone and makes me look ill, but I thought I'd give it a go! However, when I got home and had a look in normal lighting, it wasn't a blue number at all! Rise and Shine is actually an Ocean green shade.

On the bottom it states that just like Nirvana, this was a matte shade. Now, I literally only released that this was labelled as Matte when I took the photograph, after having the polish on for a few days! So, what does that tell you? Sinful Colors are rubbish at putting their polishes into categories and this definitely isn't a Matte shade.

Ciate in Cream Soda

So last weekend after worked I nipped in to TK Maxx to see if I could spot any bargains - and I did! I found Ciate nail polish in the sale. I found two shades, one was in a set and one wasn't (I obviously bought both!), however when I went to pay the cashier told me that this polish was also meant to be in a set but because it was missing, he asked his manager and he gave it to me for £3! Bargain.

However, I was still not completely sold on the shade, but who am I to pass up a bargain like that..

I picked up the shade Cream Soda, which in the bottle looks like a grey matte polish. I really like the bottle - it's one that's really comfy and easy to hold as it's flat and rounded so it fits in the palm of your hand nicely. The brush is on a long lid which makes that easy to hold when applying the polish, which means you can have a more steady hand. I also love the cute little bow on the Ciate nail polishes and how simple the label is.

FOTD: Autumn Eyes in January

So, today I played around with some eyeshadows and thought I'd do an Autumn eye.. even though it's now January! Autumnal make-up is my favourite as I just adore all of the colours, so I though why not!

I kept the inner third relatively light to keep my eyes bright as they are quite small and if I put anything dark in the inner third it closes them up so much! Whilst doing this make-up, I also discovered a MAC Dupe which i'll do a post about separately to this.

Sleek Celestial i-Divine Palette

Sleek Celestial Palette Limited Edition Eyeshadow

A while ago I picked up Sleek's Limited Edition Celestial Palette as I had seen so many swatches and reviews on it, I decided that it was must for my collection as I am a HUGE Sleek fan anyway (and slowly am collecting all of their palettes as I just think that they are fantastic, and such good quality for the money, just like the whole of Sleek's make up range).

Sleek Celestial Palette Limited Edition Eyeshadow
Top Row: Solar, Astral Blue, Aurora, Galactic, Earth Shine, Dark Matter
Bottom Row: Stargaze, Saturn's Ring, Meteoric, Terrestrial, Lunar, Eclipse

You get 12 eyeshadows in this palette and they are all named after different things to do with Space and the stars, all this galactic! I love this idea as I love looking at the sky and all things like that absolutely fascinate me, plus who can resist a bit of sparkle?

Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupte Shine lipstick in Shade 17 Rose in Tension

For Christmas, I was lucky enough to get a Boots giftcard from my stepmums mum. So, after much deliberation and umming and ahhing over what to get with the card, I finally decided on treating myself to some YSL lipstick. I've wanted a YSL lipstick for the longest time, but I just can't justify spending £24 on a lipstick (well, until I win the lottery that is!) - so, considering I had a giftcard, the time was finally here for me to buy my first ever YSL lipstick.

Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupte Lipstick Shine Shade 117 Rose in Tension

I've ALWAYS absolutely adored the packaging for YSL lipsticks, it's just so fancy and lovely and looks nothing like anything I already own. It comes in a shiny metallic gold box with the YSL logo on a square that matches the shade of lipstick you are buying.

The Sinful Colors Series: Feeling Great

This lovely polish I picked up recently, as I mentioned in last weeks Sinful Colors post, I went shopping and picked up a few polishes from the range that were less Wintery and more Summery - as much as I love dark vampy colours and Winter/Autumn shades, there is only so much you can wear until you get bored. So, I went shopping and picked up brighter and happier colours.. starting with this feisty lady named Feeling Great!

The sticker was like that when I bought it - how irritating.

This polish looks like a bright purple toned pick in the bottle with blue undertones. It's one of their cream nail polishes - which to me just seems like a thicker nail polish if i'm honest, I don't see any 'cream' qualities to it at all.

MAC Studio Fix Lash Mascara in Black Fix

So recently, I got to work and realized that I had completely forgot to put mascara on that morning, and I flat out refused to do a 9 hour shift without any on, especially with having beauty counters upstairs taunting me. So, before I started work and I wondered up to the beauty counter - MAC to be precise and had a look around the mascaras before bravely asking one of the ladies who works there if I could "try some on to see if I liked it" - she said yes! So, in my mind I declared it a success and decided I would tell her I would come back and purchase it on my lunch break. I'll be honest and say at the time I had no intentions of buying it. I already have 3 unopened mascaras at home.

...i bought it.

MAC Studio Fix Lash Mascara
MAC Studio Fix Lash Mascara

I bought it in the shade Black Fix and the mascara comes in the famous black cardboard packaging with white writing - nothing much to say about that, we've all see MAC packaging before. Iti is worth nothing that on the MAC website it's called Studio Fix BoldBlack lash and from the looks of it, only comes in one shade - Black.

The Body Shop Warming Mineral Mask

When buying my foundation and the All in One concealer recently, I needed to get a new Love Your Body card as mine expired last week - luckily for me, this week when you open a new card - you get a free gift! The free gift was a full sized Warming Mineral Mask. I was quite excited about this as I do love face masks and they help me skin so much, so I'm always on the look out for a new one to try and hopefully fall in love with.

Warming Mineral Mask The Body Shop Face Skincare

This face mask is described as a 'self warming, deep cleansing, koalin clay treatment' and is suited for all skin types (but I will get on to that later). The packaging is fairly simple, a clean white squeeze tube with a macro picture of the mask itself down the size to make it look a little fancy.

You generously get 100ml of product, and it doesn't come in any other size. The bottle is surpsingly heavy too!

FOTD: Celestial Blue

Today I fancied switching my make-up up a little and did a FOTD for you! Usually I stick to neutral eyes or brown smokey shadows with a colourful lip, but today I decided to switch it around a little and pop some colour into my eye make up and have a muted lip. This is the result!

(Can I also note, how insanely long my hair is getting?! Needs a chop!)

Guest Post: Mali's Gradient Cateye Tutorial

Hi everyone!  I was approached around a month ago by my friend Amy over at her lovely blog Von Dork asking if I'd write a tutorial guest post.  I've been meaning to write a gradient cateye tutorial (as seen in my Christmas Day FOTD) for a while, so thought I could kill two birds with one stone!

You will need:
A liner brush (I use the one from my Real Techniques Starter Set)
A white base liner (I'm using my NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk)
3 eyeshadows in varying shades of your chosen colour (or colours!) I'm using MAC Golder's Green, Urban Decay Graffiti and Sugarpill Midori.  Admittedly these weren't the best colour choices as they're not quite different enough to create a very obvious gradient but the method is the same whatever colours you use :)

The Sinful Colors Series: Island Coral

This week is quite a Summery/Spring time shade, which is a very big contrast to the weather we are having - plus it still being Winter! However, I was getting bored of deep Winter shades, the usual deep blues, purples and reds and fancied something brighter and more cheerful. So, whilst having a look around in Boots I went over to the Sinful Colors stand - as I do every time I'm in there, especially since starting this feature on my blog - I picked out three brighter and Summery shades rather than the deeper ones, and this is the first of those!

Let me introduce you to this lovely little lady, named Island Coral.

Sinful Colours Island Coral

Sinful Colours Island Coral

In the bottle, Island Coral looks like a very light pink with a peach/orange twist to it. It is another one of the polishes from Sinful Colors than doesn't have any kind of shimmer or sparkle running through it, which most of the time I prefer when it comes to my own nails - boring I know! But you can't beat a good shiny finish.

This polish is one of their pearl polishes - however, I don't see any of the pearl qualities I would usually associate with a polish in that category.

The Body Shop All in One Concealer in 01

Recently, whilst buying a new foundation, I took advantage of The Body Shop's buy one get one half price promotion  - so I bought my foundation and got a new concealer for half price. I was torn by either getting this one or the Lightening Touch Concealer but I decided on this one, called the All in One Concealer, I opted for shade 01. (admittedly, I'll probably still get the other one at some point as I did like the look of it!)

The Body Shop All in One ConcealerThe Body Shop All in One ConcealerThe Body Shop All in One Concealer

This concealer comes in a silver shiny tube, which may I add is an absolute pain to photograph, with no extra packaging to protect it, just the standard clear plastic that destroys your nail polish as you peal it off (you know the kind!) It's a twist up mechanism to get the product out.

The photo on the far right shows the concealer all the way out - you don't get much considering the size of the tube! I think the product only fills half of it.. what a waste of packaging in my opinion. If they are going to sell it then they could at least halve the materials used and make enough packaging for two concealers rather than one.

MUA Luxe Velvet Lip Lacquer

Recently, you will have seen I have been making my way through the MUA Luxe Collection - starting with the Powerbrow in Mid brown and then moving on to the Precision Felt Liner from the collection, today's post in the final in the collection and features the most popular items from the collection - the velvet lip lacquers!

These have been the hardest thing ever to find - it's taken me literally weeks to get the entire collection of lip lacquers - there are 5 in total. Every time I popped in to Superdrug they either had none, or one left. So, I eventually ordered the remaining two I couldn't find it store, which was the most popular out of all of them - Reckless, a lovely red number, and the most unusual out of them - Kooky, a deep purple shade.

Finally though, I have a complete collection - so here you go!

The Sinful Colors Series: Nirvana

For this weeks Sinful Series post I have a little brown number for you. A little polish named Nirvana!

In the bottle, Nirvana looks like a milk chocolate brown would be the best way to describe it.

OOTD - New Years Outfit

Hey Guys!

I've finally had chance to re-take the photos of my New Years Ever outfit - as I explain in this post, I lost my camera and along with it, all my blog photos for my scheduled posts! So, slowly this week I've been having to retake the lost photos, meaning some posts are running late - this one included.

Anyway.. here we go.

I wore a wine coloured lace staker dress, that Nat from ThereMightBeCoffee originally bought (but in Green - as you can see in this post) and I fell in love with it, but green isn't my colour so I opted for my favourite color! The dress is from New Look and is £22.99.
However, the day I went to buy it New Look were completely out of stock, so I desperately searched the shopping center I was in for a similar dress - but nothing! So, for desperate measures I popped in to work to see if they had anything. The store I work in has a Fuse department and they usually have nice pieces so I popped in there and what do I find? The New Look dress.. One left and in my size, and the best thing was, it was £15! But with my staff discount, it cost me £12. Bargain! Another bargain, I picked up some flat shoes the exact same shade as my dress from Primark, I already thought they were a bargain at £12 - however, I get to the till, and what do I find? Half Price!
It's the shortest, and probably the most revealing dress I own but I don't care - I think the colour really suits me, and I think it is such a flattering dress! The belt came with the dress and nips you in at the waist and makes the dress fall beautifully!

Shopping FOTD

So, today I had to go the shopping center for a few reasons; sales, Sinful Colors nail polish for the series, and my dads birthday present (it's his birthday tomorrow! Well, when you read this - his birthday is today! Happy Birthday Daddy!) It was also miserable outside so I decided to do make up that made me feel good and happy (I was not happy about going out in the wind/rain though!)

Anyway, I still wanted to keep it kind of simple and nothing 'out there', it doesn't feel right going out with a full face of heavy make-up if you are just going shopping. But I gave myself defined eyes and colour on the lips.

MUA Luxe Precision Felt Eyeliner

So a few weeks ago I started blogging about MUA's Luxe range by starting with the Luxe Power Brow in Mid Brown. So, this time I'm bringing you the next item in the collection that I picked up - the Precision Felt Eyeliner. I will admit now, this is the first felt eyeliner I have used. My usual preference is liquid (either The Body Shop liquid eyeliner or the Collection liquid eyeliner). So, because of this I nearly didn't get this, but curiosity and the desire to own the range got the better of me and I popped it in my basket. I got the colour Black which so far is the only shade the eyeliner comes in (although I can be pretty sure in saying I think they will be bringing this out in more colours as I've heard from MUA that they are expanding the Luxe range in 2014).

A Note.

Hey guys!

I just wanted to say I did have some end of 2013/start of 2014 blog posts scheduled, however on my way out New Years Eve I accidentally left my camera in a taxi. I'm trying my best to get it back and just had to buy a replacement so I can carry on. I'm ringing the company every day though in the hopes of getting it back.

I had images on their for my Sales haul post and New Years OOTD and FOTD - so I have to recreate them next week so they will be a little late.

I hope I can catch soon, but in the meantime apologies for delayed poss.

Kate Moss for Rimmel - Lipstick 08.

A few months ago I picked up this lipstick as I had another one of the lipsticks from Kate Moss' range for Rimmel, in shade 110, which you can read about here. I loved that lipstick and had it almost a year now, so decided it was time to try another lipstick from the range - this time on the opposite end of the spectrum! 110 is a bright orange based red matte lipstick, with plenty of coral tones and definitely, what I would call a Summer lipstick. This shade I decided to try, is completely different - it's an earthy nude colour with a small amount of shimmer running through it.

The packaging is slightly different to the other lipstick I have - this one is a sturdy black plastic with Kate's signature in red alongside a heart. (Shade 110 is a bright orange/red plastic case with a black signature and heart to match the lipstick inside).
