Barry M: Gelly Hi-Shine Nail Paint in Pomegranate

I'd been curious about the Gelly Hi-Shine nail paint by Barry M ever since they announced them - the name itself intrigued me! Gelly nail paint? My initial thought is that it would be thick and wobbly like Jelly! And that thought confused me and I wondered how on earth that would make good nail polish, surely it couldn't work? But it was only recently I picked up a bottle of the stuff to give it a try!

I opted for a nice pink with red undertones called Pomegranate - in all honesty, there wasn't that many shades to choose from (less than 10 and most of them seemed dark!) so I picked this as I knew it would be the only colour out of the options i'd wear the most. Now, how does thick jelly-like polish work...

Well I still don't know how thick jelly-like polish would work, because this is NOTHING like that. All it is, well what it seemed is, just a slightly thicker nail polish (and only a TINY bit thicker at that). However, it was super shiny and it went on in one coat - there literally was no need for another coat or any touch ups and it dried pretty quick. Winner! I love painting my nails but there is nothing worse that waiting for them to try. Maybe I should work on my patience a little.. or they could invent even faster drying nail polish (I hope for the latter!)

I've had this polish on all week and refused to do any touch ups, just to see how long it lasted. And I have to say - I'm impressed! This is what my nails looked like after 5/6 days of wearing the polish (one coat) and in that time I have worked (I have a very hands-on job - my nails always take a battering at work because of all the lifting and carrying of clothes and coathangers I have to do so nail polish is lucky to last 2 - 3 days at best!)

Quite impressive! The big chip is only because I caught my nail in zip whilst rushing to get ready - so thats my fault and not because the polish chipped easily.

I can quite happily say I love this nail polish, I just REALLY wish they did it in more colours.

  2. I've recently bought a gelly varnish, in dragonfruit! I haven't tried it yet but I can't wait to & I actually can't believe how little it's chipped.
